Students who need support in the area of reading are assessed using the Qualitative Reading Inventory. The results of this test allow for an instructional reading level to be determined. The testing requires approximately two hours to complete and is generally broken up into two one hour sessions. The testing also assesses reading levels in narrative and expository text and focuses on comprehension. Reading speed is also determined. Testing is reviewed with parents and a detailed plan to address a specific need or set of needs through high interest literature is begun. Writing and spelling are also incorporated into this plan.
